Conventions used in this manual
Four things come up on almost every page. They are covered here once.
Keys
Raily accepts either key of a pair on every system. The manual names the first:
| In this manual | Windows and Linux | Mac |
|---|---|---|
| Ctrl | Ctrl | Cmd ⌘ |
| Alt | Alt | Option ⌥ |
| Shift | Shift | Shift ⇧ |
Mouse and finger
Right mouse button means: open the context menu. Without a right mouse button, long-press the object — with two fingers on a trackpad.
A single finger holds no key. If Optimize UI for touch is on in Settings, toggles for it appear in the upper toolbar: Multi-select, Snap off, Angle lock, No link. They latch on until you switch them off again; see Snapping.
The second click opens the editor
Many objects have their own editor. You reach it with a second click, not a double-click:
- Click the object so that it alone is selected.
- Click it again.
Below the track type buttons in the left toolbar are all the editors for the current selection; the second click opens the most common one. There are always two, even for multiple objects: Translate and Rotation.
Multi-tool buttons
A small triangle on a button means: there is a list behind it. A click on the triangle, or a long press on the button, opens it. The button shows the tool last used from that list, and a short click picks that one.
Icons
An icon like in the text is the button to look for in the program.
