Grid
The grid is the graph paper under the plan: fine lines in the 2D view that you can snap to.
Turning it on and off
The magnet icon in the top-left corner of the rulers opens the window for snapping and grid (2D view only). At the top of it are:
- x: and y: are the grid's base spacing, in millimeters, set separately per direction.
- Lock keeps the ratio of x to y fixed while you change one of them. A 100 × 50 mm grid then keeps the same aspect ratio when enlarged.
- Show Grid toggles the display on and off.
Snap to Grid is a separate switch in the same window: display and snapping are independent of each other. Both are also in Settings, the path that stays open in 3D as well.
The visible spacing adapts, the base values don't
When zooming out, a 10 mm grid would eventually merge into a grey area. Raily therefore multiplies the spacing by 10 repeatedly, until there are at least 10 pixels on screen between two lines: 10 mm becomes 100 mm, then 1000 mm.
Two consequences:
- Your entered base values stay unchanged; only the display gets coarser.
- It only goes upward. When zooming in, the grid does not get finer than the base value; if you want to work more finely, enter a smaller value.
