Performance tips
Large layouts can slow down the display. These measures help.
While editing
- Hide layers. What sits on a hidden layer never enters the scene at all — it costs no rendering, no lighting, and no shadows. Hide whatever you are not currently working on. See Layers.
- Work in the 2D view. 2D draws without shadows and without lamp light, and is correspondingly faster. Switch to 3D only to check your work.
- Turn off shadows and lamps. In Settings under Rendering: turn off 3D directional shadow, set 3d lamps and headlights to Off or lower. Shadows are the single biggest item in 3D.
On the plan
- Raise terrain resolution only where detail is needed. The triangle count of a surface grows with the product of the grid points X and Y. See Terrain editing.
- Simplify detailed STL models. The import dialog shows the triangle count; Simplify lowers it, even after the fact — see Import files.
