Create tunnel
The dialog turns the selected tracks into a tunnel tube: Raily sweeps the chosen cross-section profile along the track path and cuts it out of the terrain.
The dialog for creating a tunnel.
First select the tracks the tunnel should run through, then choose Create tunnel… from the context menu.
Cross-section
Three profiles are available:
| Profile | Use |
|---|---|
| Arch (open bottom) | The usual tunnel: vertical walls, vaulted ceiling, open floor |
| Round (closed bottom) | Closed tube, for instance for a bore through rock |
| Rectangular | Box profile, for instance for an underpass or gallery section |
Dimensions
- Inner width: the width on the inside — the space the train actually has. Not the component's outer width.
- Height: the height of the interior above the track plane.
- Wall thickness: the thickness of the masonry. It is added on top of the inner width.
The suggested inner width is already what a reference vehicle sweeps on the curve of this track, in a curve considerably more than the width of the car. What that figure does not know, and why it is a lower bound, is under Technical limits. If you build tight, also run your longest vehicle through the curve by hand.
Profile offset (off-center track)
Where the track does not lie in the center of the tube, Lateral offset and Vertical offset shift the profile against the track. Use this to build double-track tunnels where each track has its own distance to the wall, or a tunnel with a side escape route.
