Glossary
The words Raily uses in its own particular way.
- Annotation: a marking on the track that describes a stretch, not individual pieces of track. From it, Refresh builds a tunnel, a cutting, a block. See Getting started 3.
- Marker: the arrow that sits an annotation on the track. Region: the stretch Raily computes from it.
- Work plane: the plane in which new things are created and along which dragged things travel. See Work plane and coordinates.
- Build depth: rail, sleeper, and bedding together. A track's height means its railhead; the build depth hangs beneath it. See Getting started 6.
- Vertical easement: the vertical transition curve at the ends of a ramp.
- Layer: groups objects that are hidden or locked together. See Layers.
- Install: bind an element to a host so it travels along with it and, if it can, cuts an opening into it. Shift+I key.
- Snapping: locking into place while dragging — onto the grid, guides, points, track ends, surfaces. See Snapping.
- Group: several objects chosen and moved as one.
- Multi-tool button: a button with a small triangle, hiding a list behind it. See Conventions.
- Module: one manufacturer's track system, for example Märklin C Track. The word has nothing to do with layout modules (Fremo, segments) despite the shared name.
- Cant: the outer rail sits higher than the inner rail on a curve.
- Connector: the end of a track where another one docks.
- Linked copy: shows the same element a second time and follows every change to the original. A duplicate, by contrast, becomes independent the moment it's copied.
- Helix: a curve that repeats while climbing. See Create helix.
