Select objects

Almost every command in Raily acts on the selection. You already know the main actions from Getting started 1; here they're gathered together, plus a few more: selecting by rail type, groups, and the two settings that turn this behavior off.

The actions

Action Effect
Click selects an object and discards the previous selection
Ctrl-click adds it individually, or removes it again
Click on empty space clears the selection
Drag a selection rectangle everything inside it (2D view only)
Double-click a rail everything connected to it, directly and indirectly (can be turned off, see below)
Shift-click a second rail the stretch between both, see below

Without a keyboard

On a tablet, you reach Ctrl-click via the toggle Multi-select in the top toolbar. It latches: as long as it's on, every click adds to the selection or removes from it. The toggle only appears when Optimize UI for touch is on in the Settings.

The double-click can be turned off

Select connected elements on double-click in the Settings, group Input & Interaction, controls it. Turned off, double-click selects only the rail you clicked.

The stretch between two rails

If there are several paths between the two clicked rails — over a switch, a runaround track, a loop — Raily looks for up to eight of them and offers them by length, shortest first. Each further Shift-click on the same second rail switches to the next path; after the last one it starts over from the beginning. So you keep clicking until the path you mean is marked.

If Raily finds no path, only the rail you chose first remains selected.

By type, not by place

Right mouse button → Select all of type selects every element in the plan that comes from the same module and the same rail type as the one you clicked. That way you can, for instance, change the color of all bumper blocks at once, without hunting for them.

Groups

Objects that belong together can be combined into a group, which is selected and moved as one, see Groups.
