Plan Properties

File → Plan Properties… collects what applies to the whole plan: its scale, its look in the background, the rule for curves that are too tight, and the details by which you'll recognize it later.

Field What it does
Scale the ratio of prototype to model, e.g. 87 for H0 (1:87). It affects every length given in the plan
Smallest curve radius how tightly a flex track may be bent; tighter spots are marked red in the plan. 0 turns the warning off
Annotation size factor enlarges dimension lines and the compass together, without changing the plan
Background color the color behind the plan. In the 3D view it can be replaced by the sky
Author and Description free text, for sharing and documentation; the description accepts formatted text

Set the scale first

It decides what an entered length means, and the default smallest curve radius is calculated from it. Set it when you create the plan, not once track is already laid. The value you leave the dialog with also becomes the default for your next new plan.

The smallest curve radius is a default, not a lock

Raily does not stop you from building tighter; it only tells you where. The default is 762 mm for H0, the same radius converted to scale in other scales. It is measured on freely-shaped flex track; a catalogue curve has the radius it was manufactured with. A single piece of flex track may deviate from it; see Flex track.

Time, location, sky, light and fog are not here — they live in the Environment tool window.
