Drawing tools

At the top of the left toolbar are the tools for everything that is not track: roads, building footprints, water surfaces, walls, labels.

Tool What it's for
New path any free-form shape, angular or curved. The main tool
New rectangle rectangle, L, U, and O shape, with dimensions
New circle segment circle and arc
Add text a text box
Measure elements see Dimension lines and measuring
New polyline the tool from Raily 4, see Polyline

Drawing happens on the work plane, in the colors of the two color swatches at the top of the toolbar. All these shapes are paths and share two things: a height turns the area into a solid, and two paths can be combined, with the -, +, and / keys.

Path

Click sets a corner point. Drag while clicking instead sets a curve point with handles. A double-click ends the path.

The second click on a finished path lets you edit it: drag points and handles, and in the property panel

Below that are the height and the fill: the fill color, or in 3D a material.

The fill can be hatched or crosshatched: lines at an angle and spacing of your choice, in their own colour and width, drawn over the fill colour. Without a fill colour they give the look of a technical drawing.

Rectangle

Click one corner and drag to the opposite one. Releasing creates the rectangle and selects it; handles and properties come with the second click.

Text

The new text box hangs from the pointer; a click places it. It initially has neither border nor fill. While typing, a dedicated bar appears for font, formatting, color, alignment, and lists.

Text does not appear in 3D by itself

The 3D view and the 3D export need 3d text (experimental) in the advanced display settings.
